Why Fletch and the App Model?

Reading time: 4 min

Fletch’s app model solves the complex problem of cybersecurity analytics, enabling SMEs and underserved security teams to finally have a fighting chance to be secure

Complexity is the enemy of cybersecurity. Technical transformation is happening at a nearly vertical rate. Large enterprises have a chance, but most companies just have hope. In our two and half years of research and development, while collaborating with top industry experts and interviewing 100s of C-level execs, IT, and cybersecurity professionals, we kept hearing the same things over and over again:

“We can’t get the answers we need to make our business secure.” - Head of Security at an Oil & Gas Company

“We don’t have the resources to parse through thousands of data points and make sense of them.” - CEO of a Tech Company

“We don’t really know where to start and how to connect all the dots.” - Head of IT and Security at a Biotechnology Company

“We don’t have the budget and the technical talent required to use current analytics platforms to get to what we need.” - VP of Security and IT at a University

“We’ve spent thousands of dollars on do-it-yourself analytics platforms and still don’t have what we need.” - VP of Security at a Healthcare Company

“We need something simple, easy to use, easy to set up, that simply tells us what we need to make better decisions and secure our environment.” - CTO at an Edtech Company

These words and the constant frustration behind them were our inspiration for building Fletch and it’s app model. We wanted to breathe simplicity into the complex world of cybersecurity analytics to give SMEs (small and medium enterprises) and underserved security teams a fighting chance.

We focused on re-thinking cybersecurity analytics and democratizing access by making organizations’ data instantly useful without the need for technical talent, data wrangling, and constant maintenance and troubleshooting. We doubled down on our consumer backgrounds to make sense of the data and present it in a concise and intuitive manner so that everyone in the organization could put it to use.

Fletch and its app model

After years of research and development, we finally launched Fletch and our unique app model in Oct 2021. Basically, each app is designed to answer cybersecurity questions everyone has daily from simple ones like top downloaders to more sophisticated ones like helping you figure out Insider Risk.  For each app there are a set of required integrations that you can connect within minutes and let Fletch go to work. Fletch then parses through the selected data, standardizing, and correlates the information and all activities so organizations can get the answers they need fast.

Fletch's app model meets organizations where they are in terms of their security efforts and scales as needed. The app model enables organizations to only choose the set of questions they want answers to and pay only for what they actually need.

Another benefit of the app model lies within its flexibility. It allows the Fletch community to build together. Customers, technology and service providers can come together to build apps on top of Fletch and add value to the cybersecurity community.

Fletch is starting with the following apps and there will be many more.

The Trending Threats App, tells companies if the emerging top threats in the news impact their organization. Fletch does this by correlating emerging cyber threats with the data generated by a company's vulnerability and endpoint solutions. All it takes is 15 minutes to connect products like SentinelOne, Crowdstrike, Carbon Black, Qualys, or Tenable, and they'll start getting daily email updates telling them if any of the top threats impact them.

The Insider Risk App, quickly tells a company if anyone in their organization looks off and if so, why, and by how much. Fletch does this by indexing thousands of data points generated by the company's Google Workspace, MS 365, and Okta applications to build dynamic baselines and risk profiles of every individual at the company. The platform also enables the company to dive into anyone with a click of a button to expedite investigation.

Fletch is out to automate the "busy work" of cybersecurity analytics by simply delivering critical answers teams need via Fletch apps to get beyond just observability, get to decision making, resolve incidents quickly, and ultimately get ahead of cybercriminals.
